Quicky rentals reach UK

EUROPCAR in the UK has started doing what local vehicle lessor, Keygroup have been doing for years: renting vehicles out for just a day.
The UK branch of Europcar however took the concept of a quicky rental a whole step further, and is now the first car hire company in the UK to offer car and van hire by the hour.
Their prices are impressive, with a bottom of the range cars costing £10 (R125) per hour and a van going for £11 (R137) an hour.
The terms and conditions are less impressive.
Europcar UK stipulates the lessor has to take the car for a minimum of two and a maximum of eight hours, and then only on weekdays.
Problem is, most people want to move their house or fetch their new fridge on weekends.
And as any student who drove in London knows, the traffic does not exactly flow at the best of times.
This makes an hourly rate academic, as even a 20 km journey takes at least two hours there and back, with stops to load.
Full marks however to Ken McCall, MD of the Europcar UK Group, for as he said, the new hourly hire service will “break the rules” to give motorists more flexibility – “and take away the barrier of cost.”
