After many problems on the first two events, the new pairing for
2013 have kept it together in their class two Conquest to take home a
well-deserved win.
Organisers Bertus Labuschagne and Peter Chadwick led the event for
the first two stages in their class two VW Polo, but stopped in the slipstream
of a charging Vaughn and Brunnings.
Championship leaders Alan Hooper and Wayne Westwood had a clean run
in a class three Corolla, but were just off the pace of the leaders. However,
they still came home in third place, securing their championship lead.
Veteran Brian Scott and his wife, Ashley, ran short on fuel in the
first stage and lost about 20 minutes, placing them clearly out of the race.
2012 Clubmans champions Kenneth Brown and Jarryd Fouche had their first run in
their newly acquired Corolla RSI and shaved seconds off each of the four stages,
and ended the race just under four minutes behind the winners.
Dean Redelinghuis and Fani Mayewa had electrical problems on stage
one in their Polo, bringing an end to their run.
The fourth round of the
KZN Rally Championship takes place at Eston on June 29.
