Radio Overberg précis

10-times World Rally Champ Sebastian Loeb lost the Monte Carlo leg
by spinning off into the snow, but won the hearts of all his fans when he
wasted precious time with a little speech to thank them for the push.

New cars this week

Cherry Tigo 1.6-litre DVVT petrol for R229 900.

Nog 'n klein karretjies is Suzuki se heel nuwe Celerio, which replaces the popular Alto mini hatchback in South Africa this month.  A three-cylinder 1,0-litre engine makes 50 kW at 6 000 r/min, and 90 Nm at a relatively low 3 500 r/min for a claimed consumption as low as 4,6 litres/100 km on the open road. Mercedes-Benz has introduced the new S65 AMG Coupé. Selling for over R3 million, this benchmark in motoring has a V12 that accelerates the big car from 0 to 100 km/h in 4,1 seconds, thanks to peak power of 463 kW and maximum torque of 1 000 Newton metres between 4 800-5 400 rpm. Another innovation is the 78 Ah lithium-Ion battery that replaces both the starter battery and the backup battery to save over 20 kg in weight. At this price, the car parks itself, stops automatically for pedestrians, steers itself to stay in the middle of the lane, has 3D surround sound, and everything that can be, is wrapped in nappa leather.

Die Merc is nie al wat homself stuur nie. Ford se nuwe Fusion -- wat die Mondeo in SA vervang, doen dieselle.
The new Fusion can also apply automatic braking to mitigate or avoid a collision with a vehicle ahead. Active City Stop operates at speeds of up to 40 km/h. At higher speeds new Pre-Collision Assist uses radar and camera technology which allows it to scan ahead and automatically apply up to full braking force to help the driver mitigate or avoid many types of rear-end collision.
Radar technology further enables the new Distance Indication feature and Adaptive Cruise Control technology. Distance Indication provides an intuitive visual interface to inform the driver of the time gap to the vehicle ahead. Adaptive Cruise Control automatically maintains a chosen distance from the vehicle ahead.

Vehicle Rent vs Own

With a banks loan you pay interest on a depreciating asset, plus all the maintenance, for 60- 72 months.
Stupid people buy with a balloon payment or residual. This means lower monthly payments but you will end up pay the car twice, and I having paid dearly to learn this lesson myself, I cannot stress enough how stupid this is.
If you insist on a new car, go and rent one.
With Ariva most of your service and/or maintenance needs are provided for, for the full duration of your lease contract.
Ariva offers two products to suit your needs:
Ariva Lite – covers the required services for the vehicle
Ariva Premium - covers the required services plus maintenance work and tyres for the vehicle.
Ariva also offers a 24/7 roadside assistance benefit at no extra cost.

There are various contract periods based on the type of vehicle
New passenger vehicle – 54 months
bakkies – 44 months
You can even rent a used car for 48 months.
Also a bonus at end of contract if the car is in good nick.

On special now is Renault Duster 1.6 Expression* Ariva's prices is R5430 per month for 36 months, FNB will charge you about R1500 more a month  over the same perdiod, meaning you pay almost R41 to the bank in interest.
Another example is the Polo VIVO 1.4 Trendline, the Ariva Ariva Premium which includes service and maintenance, is R4,259pm.
FNB will charge you about R550 less a month (R3,708.20 pm), but this excludes services and maintenance and at the end of the contract you will have paid R55k in interest as well as at least another R25 on services for the dubious privilege of owning a rattling, five-year old Vivo.

As with a loan, so for renting. You will need latest payslip, 3 months bank statements (6 months bank statements if you are self-employed), Copy of your driver’s license, Copy of your South African ID.
