With everybody’s favourite Volksie, the
Bugatti Veyron, nearing the end of its limited production run, petrol heads are
wondering what will be the world’s next halo car.
Right now, that shiny ring of light looks
ready to settle on Audi's R8. The development teams at Audi have been preparing
both the R8 road car and all-new R8 LMS race car, which was shown at the Geneva
Motor Show and will make its raced at the VLN Endurance Championship at
Nürburgring, which ended so tragically over the weekend. The R8 LMS GT3 car
shares about 50 percent of its parts with the production R8, including a
virtually identical V10 engine tuned to 585 hp. Audi plans to spßend this year
putting it through the paces before starting sales to customer teams next year.
In the 2015 season in North America, Audi driver Mike Skeen recently achieved
a podium place on the second race weekend of the Pirelli World Challenge Championships on
the city street circuit in St. Petersburg in Florida. The runner-up in the 2014
season in his Audi R8 LMS ultra of Team CRP Racing took third place in the
first race.
