Seen here is the Generation Six special edition, with a two-tone paint job and optional 18-in retro-design ‘Disc’ alloy wheels, plus standard LED front and rear lights, chrome package, tinted windows and fog lights with cornering light.
VW has described the special edition as ‘a market-launch exclusive’, hoping it will become as valuable a collectors’ car as the Samba 23 window behind it, a 1960 model which sold for AUD$220 000 (R2 066 587) at the Shannons Melbourne late summer sale in February.
