The sheep fart louder than the buzz from the two electric Ubco bikes. |
NEW Zealand electric bike builders Anthony Clyde and Daryl Neal are
now taking orders for their Ubco farm bike.
They each boast a decade’s experience in the e-bike industry before
deciding to combine forces to create a light electric offroad bike that can
carry tools and be used on New Zealand’s muddy farms.
The pair boast their Ubco drive electric bike is in a league of its
own.
Apart from the duel electric drive train that gives instant torque
to both wheels and low centre of gravity due to the 40 amp battery mounted where
the pedals would go on a normal bike, the Ubco
also has a 12 volt outlet to power electric appliances like a drill, as well as an USB port to power the smartphone.

The battery range is specified at 150 km over flat country, or
100 km over steep hills.
That battery does take the Ubco’s weight to 50 kg — hefty by
mountain bike standards — but still light enough to be manhandled over most
fences.
With no clutch, there is nothing to scrape or bump and none of the
normal greasy maintenance routines that petrol-driven farm bikes require. The
sturdy frame gives the Ubco a 200 kg payload. To handle the weight, the
suspension comprises adjustable shocks front and rear, riding on Innova Tough
Gear wheels with 70/100/17 tyres.
