Rally makes dreams come true

Womza and MSA racers will meet for the first time in Dalton's sweet sugar cane.
ON October 27, a rather special race is being planned for Dalton, when the Natal Motorcycle and Car Cub (NMCC) will be hosting a regional rally under the banner of Motorsport South Africa (MSA).
Organiser Dean Redelinghuys said what makes the race special is that it will be the first MSA race to invite drivers affiliated to World of Motorsport (Womza) to compete at the same event.
The race will be hosted in the Dalton area featuring six stages ranging from 13 km to 30 km, with the
total racing kilometres being roughly 100 km. “We envisage a minimum of 40 competitors. The main service park will be at the Dalton Farmers Club.
“This provides us with a great venue and the club will be selling food and drinks during the day to generate much-needed income for them.
“Added to this a local farmer, Mr Kurt Renken — whose son, Zane, recently died in a work-related incident — has given permission for all the race vehicles to feature a picture of Zane, in memory of a much-respected competitor,” Redelinghuys said.
Signs and Graphics of Pinetown will provide signage as well as erecting a start/finish ramp displaying the logos of all the parties involved.

Reach For A Dream will also be part of the race. A one-kilometre stage has been prepared opposite the club where children will get to experience what it is like inside a rally car at full speed. The Reach for a Dream kids will be joined by pupils from Newton Technical School in Pietermaritzburg. The boys are currently turning an old Golf body into the basis of a rally car with a roll cage and no excess weight. The plan is for the school to complete the car and race in it next year.
Redelinghuys said the day was all about giving KZN’s many rally drivers an opportunity to race and to expose the budding racers to this sport.
