These pumps are set to follow the fossil fuels they dispense, meanwhile, the struggle to burn less of it continues.
EVERY time the fuel prices rise, I get asked how to save fuel, and I always offer the same three solutons:
1. Don’t drive if you can share a ride.
2. If you have to drive, use a small engine.
3. While on route, drive like a trucker — get into the highest gear as soon as you can and then keep both the rev and speed needles as low as you can.
Driving just 20 km/h slower and keeping your engine revs between 2 500 rpm and 3 000 rpm are the two most effective tricks to reduce fuel spend by as much as 20%.
Then switch off all the electronics so that you can focus on the road and plan far ahead.
You can see the amateurs out there, the bad drivers who don't plan. They are always braking.
In comparison, good drivers are always regulating. Their aim is to maintain a constant speed and avoid stops.
To save world-record levels of fuel, do like record holder Malcolm Kinsey from Pinetown does. He plans so far ahead, he even researchers prevailing wind patterns and peak traffic times to select the most fuel-efficient route and time to drive.
