Latest vans raise luxury bar

Ford's Transit Skyliner Concept
has four custom ‘throne’ seats.
FORD and Volkswagen last week unveiled their latest touring vans, with the American setting new standards in rapper-style plushness, while the German ups the gadget bar.
Ford said their Transit Skyliner Concept luxury van illustrates the “unlimited flexibility, versatility and capability” of the new Transit.
UK campervan specialist Wellhouse Leisure designed the VW T5 campervan, which “seamlessly transforms between living and hauling configurations thanks to an electric rear bench that slides forward to open up space in the rear”.
Inside the Ford, the Skyliner can transform into four dramatic modes — theatre, business, reception and travel — with movable, custom-designed “throne” seats that reposition automatically, controlled by a smartphone or tablet.
The Theatre mode has the passengers facing a 52-inch retractable Stewart movie screen and their seats can recline “for optimal cinematic viewing”.
Tim Stoehr, Ford manager for commercial truck marketing, described the Transit’s custom interior as immersive in a way that shortens the journey. The Transit uses a 3.5 litre EcoBoost engine.

Inside the Volkswagen, there is a two-burner stove, sink and refrigerator, with the rear seat able to lock into multiple positions, including a 2x1,2 metre bed. Other equipment in the combi includes a 42-litre Waeco compressor fridge, 35-litre fresh and waste water tanks, an optional Webasto heat and hot water system, and an optional rear hand shower.
