METRO Cars in Pietermaritzburg has sold its largest yet consignment
of cars to a single client — seven half-ton bakkies to Unilever.
Unilever traces its company history back to 1887, when William
Lever registered the Sunlight trademark in South Africa, and estimates over two
billion people choose a Unilever product from a store somewhere in SA every
day.
Naidoo said the Changan bakkie is the Chana bakkie with a new name,
and cited a

“These bakkies will go on to make seven happy owners, from
Kuilsrivier in the Western Cape to Polokwane in Limpopo,” said Naidoo.
Jiangling Motor Corporation, (JMC) announced in 2013 it would take
over the servicing from liquidated Geely as well as continue to import the
facelifted version of the willing little Chanas under the original name,
Changan.
In the four years since, JMC’s mission to establish a viable
distribution network for the brand is working, and the Changan Star II is now
available at multi-franchise dealers in single, double and king cab options
alongside the group’s one-ton bakkies, which includes the excellent Vigus
one-ton bakkie.
Metro Cars is the main JMC dealer in KZN, and Naidoo says the Chana
and Changan bakkies working hard on SA’s roads are paying for themselves as
their owners can depreciate the asset in four years.
And what’s more, said Naidoo, he is always willing to negotiate
good prices, which starts at R77 990 for the 1,0 litre single cab and go up by
R20k for the 1,3 King Cab.
