Jaguar announces
XF
recall
JAGUAR Land Rover announced worldwide recall of 4 195 Jaguar XF
sedans, built in 2010, 2011 and 2012.
Lesley Sutton, media affairs manager for Jaguar Land Rover SA
confirmed to The Witness that the
recall affects models exported to South Africa as well.
The company is concerned about a fuel tank outlet flange that may
crack under certain conditions, leading to the possibility of a fuel spill. Most
of the vehicles affected by this recall were assembled in Jaguar’s Castle
Bromwich, UK plant, between April 2009 and January 2010.
Newer vehicles may have received the defective part during service,
as parts were supplied to dealers through October 2012.
Jaguar XF models with cracked outlet flanges will likely trigger
the “Check Engine” warning light, and may exhibit the odour of fuel in and
around the car.
In some cases, liquid fuel can accumulate under the fuel tank,
leading to a fire risk in the presence of an ignition source.
Jaguar has not received any reports of fires, accidents or injuries
related to this defect.
Owners will be notified of the recall via mail, and the expected
recall start date is on or before December 7, 2012.
Dealers will replace the defective fuel tank outlet flange with a
part utilising a revised design, at no charge to consumers.
