DEZZI’S Raceway near Oslo Beach in Port Shepstone hosted the fifth
round of the national drifting championship, with the drivers going around the
track in the dark for the first night racing at the venue.
Drifters and time attack drivers shared the track, but it was the
difters that had the fans on the embankment cheering the loudest.
In the top eight, Monster Energy/Cool Bananas’ Jason Webb beat the
Argus Frix Drifting machine of BG Smit and Alcohol Killer’s Jonathan Rudman beat
Falken Tyres’ Rudi van den Berg.
After his crash at the track in March, there was nothing to
separate Dezzi Racing’s Shane Gutzeit from
Speed and Sound/Border Towing’s Wade
van Zummeren. The 27-year-old Van Zummeren, however, had a higher qualifying
position, which sent him through to the semi-finals, where he raced Glue Devil’s
David Nell while Webb raced against Rudman.

On the night these four drifters proved they earned their
reputations, but as the pressure mounted the small errors counted to see Webb
and Van Zummeren battle it out for top honours.
Webb showed his class to narrowly beat van Zummeren, with Rudman
third.
