Reducing test drive fraud and theft

TRANSUNION has renamed its award-winning Dealer Guide app “1Check”.
The group says the name reflects the app’s powerful capabilities and ease of use, which now incorporates powerful new features designed to assist dealers to reduce their risk of test drive fraud and theft.
Kriben Reddy, head of product development at TransUnion Auto, said uses a database of over 19 million consumer records as well as TransUnion Auto’s database — the largest database of vehicle manufacturers, financing and valuation records in South Africa — to offer motor dealers the ability to make instant, informed decisions.

“Several of the new features, including the ‘Test Drive’ and ‘Quick Credit’ additions, were developed in response to requests from dealers to assist them to quickly and easily identify various categories of consumers so as to align their sales approach to individual potential customers,” Reddy said.
“In addition, the key features of the original Dealer Guide app, including valuations and verifications have been enhanced and offer dealers far more flexibility in structuring their report requests.
“For example, dealers are now able to request an ‘Accident Only Report’ on a specific vehicle without having to purchase a full Verification Report.”
All TransUnion 1Check reports are now delivered to dealers in real-time, via e-mail or on their mobile devices, enabling them to make fully-informed, on-the-spot decisions regardless of their location. In order to comply with the National Credit Act as well as the privacy principles enshrined in the Protection of Personal Information (Popi) Act, dealers must obtain the consumer’s consent before utilising some of the new TransUnion 1Check features and services.
Dealers pay only for the individual features they require. TransUnion 1Check is available for download to iOS (Apple) and Android devices. It will also soon be available for all other platforms including Blackberry.
TransUnion 1Check services include:
• Test Drive, which verifies the customer’s ID number and also checks for fraud risk alerts at R6 per Test Drive transaction.
• Quick Credit to evaluate the credit standing indicator of a consumer before entering into lengthy sales negotiations at R10 per Quick Credit report.
