OVERSEAS, electric skateboards are increasingly popular as an urban transport option. Apart from being easy to carry and stow, they are nippy, with most able to equal to the average human running speed of 40km/h.
But several are a lot faster, like Baja Board’s latest board, the Pantera.
Baja Boards’ George Li told New Atlas the Pantera was “a technical demonstration for a very niche consumer and obviously, it’s for private property and not public roads”.
The Pantera has a 1,1 kWh battery pack that drives four 3,5 kW motors — one on each of wheel — to a top speed around 72 km/h, and if used sedately, the board has a range of 45 km. This plank will jump from 0-60 in under four seconds, and has sprung suspension and LED lights front and rear.
Li said no one at Baja has “the cojones to go that fast” but they are looking for a landing strip to do the test.
The Guinness World Record for the fastest board currently belongs to Slovenia’s Nextboard, after Mischo Erban clocked 95,83 km/h on a runway, clad in full motorcycle gear that got torn in several high-speed wipeouts during the test.
Baja has not yet put a price to their bespoke, high-end board.
