The Haval Coupé Concept (left) shows what design cues the next generation GWM models will follow. It stood out, slightly, from the other SUV designs on display at the recent Beijing Auto Show, which was mostly
a case of out with the new, in with the old.
For China's SUVs especially suffer from a slavish adherence to
the coupé roofline created by the Land Rover and the fluid sculptures made
popular by Hyundai.
Put any of these utes in a dark room and even their designers would
find it difficult to distinguish them from their profiles.
The exception that proved the rule was GWM new designer, Pierre
Leclercq, formerly the head of design at BMW’s M division. He set a new
direction for the company with a concept coupé, which Leclercq said shows what
the Haval Sport can look like in 2016.
Featuring a particularly striking upright LED lighting arrangement
front and rear, the Haval Coupé Concept remains recognisable even in the dark.
Other details to highlight include the symmetrical, square-shaped exhaust
outlets and striking two-tone 22-inch alloy wheels.
