The giant BYD company from China and the tiny Edison Motors company from Canada offer two different plans for diesel truck owners looking to go electric.
The engineers at the giant BYD company aim their plan at fleet buyers and provide the entire electric ecosystem supporting electric trucks, from finance, to battery banks for 1,5 MegaWatt chargers, to different sized trucks and vans.
This system has been proven for trucks of all sizes in China, from vans to dryage trucsk to a fleet of electric coal trucks served by a giant electric truck charging port in Beichuan, which is able to dispense up to 800,000 kiloWatt-hours to waiting trucks.

The most impressive numbers from BYD are in the 10-year or 1,2-million kilometer warranty for their Blade batteries, which makes peak power of 986hp (735 kW) in their ETT44 truck tractor.
An electric ecosystem under the hood
The truckers at the tiny Edison Motors company in British Columbia, Canada aim their diesel-electric hybrids at timber haulers and oil field workers.
They shoved the entire electric ecosystem under the huge hood, where a 1,500 Watt Scania SG500 generator runs on bio-diesel to trickle-feed a 110kWh lithium-ion battery pack that can send 1,600 HP (1,200 kW) and an unstoppable 203,372 Nm.

Yes, you read that right, over two hundred and three thousand Newtons) of torque to the tri-axles at the rear.
Neither BYD Trucks of Edison Motors are yet trading in South Africa's truck market, but Volvo, Sany and JAC are already proving their lorries can do the job, while seven LCV's are competing in the electric van market.
